RUN WITH ROTARY Course Descriptions
5 Kilometer (3.1 Miles) Course
RUN WITH ROTARY takes place in
scenic Montgomery Township, Somerset County New Jersey. The
five-kilometer loop course is USA Track & Field sanctioned and
certified (NJ97001GAN). The entire course takes place on maintained
paved roads with an asphalt surface. The route can be considered mostly
flat with one small hill during the first mile and some gradual
declines the next 1.5 miles. There is a very gradual incline to the
finish.
The run starts almost directly in
front of Montgomery Upper Middle School "(former High School) on Burnt
Hill Road. During the event, Burnt Hill Road will be closed to traffic,
which will allow runners to use both lanes. The course then heads North
for 0.15 miles. At the end of Burnt Hill Road, the course makes a left
turn onto Sunset Road. Runners stay on Sunset Road for 0.7 mile. This
stretch contains the only significant hill on the course, and it is
over almost as it begins. The course then turns right onto Acorn Road.
The one mile mark is shortly after this turn. Runners stay on Acorn
Road for 0.3 mile and then turn right onto Fieldcrest Avenue for a very
short distance (0.05 mile) before making another right on Brandywine
Road. (The name of the street changes from Brandywine Road to Kildee
Road.) Runners are on the Brandywine/Kildee stretch for 1.4 miles. This
area consists of a very gradual downhill. Our one water stop is on this
part of the route, close to the two mile mark. At the end of Kildee
Road, the course turns right, back onto Sunset Road for 0.35 miles.
This section contains a slight uphill grade. The course then makes a
left turn off Sunset Road, back onto Burnt Hill Road. Just prior to the
Start line, the course turns left into the Upper Middle School parking
lot for the Finish.
One Mile Ramble Course
The one mile Ramble is an out and
back measured mile. This course takes place on maintained paved roads
with an asphalt surface. The One Mile Ramble Start is marked by the
fire hydrant in front of the Upper Middle School, slightly south of the
5K Start. The first half mile is slightly uphill, while the second half
mile is slightly downhill. The start is on Burnt Hill Road. The course
heads north on Burnt Hill Road and turns right onto Westbury Court.
Participants circle around the cone at the end of the Westbury Court
cul-de-sac, then head back on Westbury to Burnt Hill Road. After a left
onto Burnt Hill, the course makes another left into the Upper Middle
School parking lot. The Finish line is the same as is used for the 5K
race.
